Here's some of our favourite must-sees for when you're on shore, whether you're taking part in a bookable activity, or just exploring on your own...
1. Explore Dubrovnik’s old town
When you picture Dubrovnik, chances are you’re thinking of the red-roofed, UNESCO-listed Old Town. Encircled by iconic walls, be sure to take the 2km trail that follows the ramparts around the city’s historic core, where a keen eye will spy traces of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Notably a key setting for the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones, fans will undoubtedly recognise plenty of locations that double for King’s Landing, with tours available to show you the most famous spots.
Here's a sample selection of Princess' Dubrovnik excursions:

• Scenic Road Train & Wine Tasting

2. Wander Split’s World Heritage Sites
UNESCO-listed Diocletian’s Palace
You may be noticing a theme here, but Split’s old town is a must too. Teeming with medieval alleyways, majestic monuments and amazing architecture, the defining feature is the UNESCO-listed Diocletian’s Palace. A stunning citadel which acts like a city-within-a-city, this piece of prime Roman real estate is a seafront gem. Constructed from local limestone and marble, the ornate columns, gargantuan gates, Peristyle courtyard, military camp and octagonal mausoleum are all unmissable.
Here's a sample selection of Princess' Split excursions:
• Diocletian's Palace, Cathedral, Temple & Trogir
• Highlights of Split by Tuk-Tuk
• Imotski Lakes and Countryside

3. Embrace Croatia’s natural beauty
As luck would have it, Split makes an excellent base for a day trip to Krka National Park. Just a little over an hour away, arrive to a wetland of lakes, emerald pools and rumbling waterfalls. Drink in the sounds of the gushing Krka River as you navigate the boardwalk loop that leads to Skradinski Buk’s 800m-long cascade.
4. Spend a lazy day on Lokrum Island
Hop on a 10-minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik’s old harbour and discover the forested island of Lokrum. Carpeted in fragrant pines trees and dotted with rocky coves and beaches, start with a walk around the large medieval Benedictine monastery and botanical gardens, before strolling along the peaceful nature trails, and finishing up with a refreshing dip in the Adriatic.
5. Make your way to the top of Mount Srđ
Boasting breathtaking views over Dubrovnik’s old town, as well as the nearby Elaphiti islands, the views from Mount Srđ’s summit are simply stunning. The easiest and quickest way to reach the top is via the bright-orange cable car that scales the side of the mountain. For the more active traveller, hiking to the summit takes about 1-2 hours and treats you to expansive vistas along the trail.
