The Best Cruise Ship Casual Eats
Beccy Miller
Johnny Rockets - Royal Caribbean
Johnny Rockets serves up burgers, shakes, fries and fun in a cool retro atmosphere and has been a favourite on Royal Caribbean for many years now - their milkshakes and malts are legendary.
You can’t go wrong with the Original Burger: a full quarter pound of Angus beef burger grilled to perfection topped with lettuce, tomato, chopped onion, relish, pickles, mustard and mayo. Pair it with a side of crispy fries or go all out and have them topped with crumbly bacon, creamy, real Cheddar cheese sauce and shredded Cheddar for the ultimate portion of loaded fries ever.
The Quay - P&O Cruises
Found on Iona and also yet-to-be-launched Arvia, The Quays is a fabulous dining addition to P&O's fleet. This multi-venue dining piazza offers an array of eateries and is a lively hub for socialising over food and watching the world go by.
There’s a fun street-food atmosphere with loads of choices, The Boardwalk Diner offers American classics including burgers and hot dogs, Fusion serves a range of Asian-inspired dishes and Hook, Line & Vinegar offers up traditional British fish and chips.
The Dock - Virgin Voyages
With multiple seating options of tables, barstools, daybeds, and wooden benches, combined with a breeze, wake view, and a cold drink, there’s no doubt that The Dock is the perfect spot for any cruiser. Combine this with drinks and mezze platters on offer and it's a winning combination.
You can get mezze-style dishes served throughout the day here, such as garlic shrimp and Spanish octopus - perfect to pick at whilst you laze in the sun.
Eden Cafe - Celebrity Cruises
Introduced on Celebrity Edge, this casual and complimentary venue is open for breakfast and lunch. The location allows for beautiful aft views and some comfy furniture to go along with it. There is also al fresco seating on both sides of the ship, but this is limited, so it pays to get there early.
You can enjoy breakfast dishes like steel-cut oatmeal with almonds, quinoa and honey or if you want to go all out, decadent pastries. At lunch, dishes such as the grilled chicken wrap with mango salsa, or the BBQ Port panini will fill you up until dinner.
Waves Grill, Oceania Cruises
Located in a spacious, shaded area steps from the swimming pool, Oceania's Waves Grill offers mouthwatering breakfast and lunch options.
Watch the chefs grill gourmet burgers, tangy barbecue and succulent seafood to order in the open galley, accompanying them with side dishes like garden-fresh salads and crispy, hand-cut truffle fries dusted with grated aged parmesan. A personal Cruise Circle favourite is the surf and turf, delicious steak served with lobster tail in a delicious ciabatta bun.
